What a Class Is Actually Like

Are you wondering what this is really like? It starts with a class. Once a week in our Ravenswood space, a teacher opens with a philosophical idea, maybe from the Stoics, the Gita, Buddhism, Plato, or a tradition you have never explored before, and we discuss what it means for our actual lives. No exams, no grades, no reading you have to finish first.

That is the ten-week Living Philosophy Course, where most people begin.

But it does not stop there. We gather for cultural evenings of art, music, and history. We head into the neighborhood for volunteering days like park cleanups and food drives. People stay after class to keep talking, and a real community forms. The ten weeks are a beginning, not the whole story. Some people take the course, and that is that, which is a good outcome. Others stay for more philosophy, the events, the volunteering, and the community.

Who shows up? All kinds of people. Some have never read a page of philosophy. Others have read for years and wanted somewhere to live it. You do not need a background, and you do not need to believe anything in particular. We draw on East and West and leave the conclusions to you.

The best way to understand it is to see a piece of it. The first class is always free.
